Moanalua senior Jun Ho Won took the drama out of the final round of the David S. Ishii/HHSAA Golf State Championships with six birdies in his first nine holes to run away with individual medalist honors on Friday at Kaanapali Golf Course. Punahou junior Claire Choi outlasted Maui’s Reese Guzman in a playoff to claim individual medalist honors in the David S. Ishii Foundation/HHSAA Golf State Championships today at Kaanapali Golf Club. Choi, who started one back of the leaders in a tie for third with OIA champion Malia Nam, carded a 3-over 74 to tie Guzman, who shot a 75, for the 36-hole lead. Andrew Chin is now a two-time individual medalist in Interscholastic League of Honolulu golf. Claire Choi is a first-time ILH champion. For eight playoff holes, Kaiser’s Malia Nam and Kalani’s Miki Manta went shot for shot and toe to toe at the Turtle Bay Fazio Course on Tuesday.
