Teraoka wins state golf title with the right ball

Moanalua’s Aj Teraoka had quite the misfortune Thursday, but he didn’t let it get him down. The senior went low — way low — with a 5-under 67 on Friday at the Turtle Bay Fazio Course to become the individual winner at the David S. Ishii/HHSAA Boys State Golf Championships. Punahou senior Claire Choi is now a two-time girls state golf champion. And she is glad Wednesday was not anything like April 24. On that day, she was sick, slept late and wound up losing the ILH title she had won as a junior to teammate Karissa Kilby. Nam takes hold of her third OIA golf title

Kaiser senior Malia Nam shot a 6-under 66 as a part of a two-round total of 8-under 136 to win her third OIA girls golf championship Tuesday at the Turtle Bay Fazio Course. Nam also won the titles when she was a freshman and in a nine-hole playoff against Kalani’s Miki Manta as a junior. As a sophomore, she lost to Manta. Freshman Kilby is new ILH golf champion

Punahou freshman Karissa Kilby entered the day with a three-shot lead and ended it with a five-shot victory in the ILH girls individual golf championship Tuesday at the Turtle Bay Fazio Course. Kilby carded a 5-over 77 to finish the two-round tournament at 6-over 150. Hirano wins ILH title with heavy heart

Punahou’s Remington Hirano shot a 2-under 70 to win the Interscholastic League of Honolulu golf championship Wednesday at the Turtle Bay Fazio Course. Hirano finished the two-round tournament at 2-under 142, four shots clear of Buffanblu teammate Kane Rogers, who closed with a 71. Former Moanalua High golfer John Oda closed with a 1-under 70 to finish in eighth place at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen Mexico on Sunday. Oda, a two-time Hawaii state high school champion who was one shot out of the lead after two rounds Saturday, ended at 12-under 272 for the tournament, his first PGA Tour event as a pro. Moanalua’s John Oda, playing in his first PGA Tour event as a pro, shot a 6-under 65 on Saturday to move within one stroke of the lead at the OHL Classic at Makakoba in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Oda, a 2014 Moanalua graduate, won the individual high school state championship in 2012 and ’14, and he captured the Hawaii State Amateur in 2012 and ’13. He also played at UNLV before turning pro.
