Update: #3 Saint Louis 73, Pac-Five 6, final

By Paul Honda on September 6, 2013

4:11 p.m. It’s a pretty day here in Halawa. Blue skies, hardly a cloud and absolutely no breeze on the field at Aloha Stadium. Saint Louis is marching in. Pac-Five is starting to warm up. I’ll have updates here for the rest of the day and night. Kamehameha and ‘Iolani to follow. 5:12 p.m. Crusaders score on their second play from scrimmage, a 70-yard bomb from Ryder Kuhns to Devan Stubblefield down the left side. Wolfpack had a couple of […]

‘Iolani looking for annual ILH upset

By Jerry Campany on September 5, 2013

When ‘Iolani walks into Aloha Stadium to meet Kamehameha on Friday, it enters knowing that it hasn’t beaten one of the ILH’s big boys in more than two years. So, if history and the “due theory” are any judge, the Warriors better be wary. The Raiders haven’t beaten one of the big dogs in eight tries, so they are overdue. It may not be Kamehameha this week. It may be Saint Louis or Punahou. But one thing is pretty much […]

Saint Louis in national record book — for now

By Jerry Campany on September 5, 2013

Hawaii is represented in the National Federation of State High School Associations’ record book for football. Cal Lee’s Saint Louis teams are listed as having the nation’s longest streak of consecutive state championships, tying with Sioux Falls Washington of South Dakota from 1951 to 1964. No other state claims a streak of double digits. Here’s the list in the official record book: 14 Saint Louis, Honolulu (1986-99) Sioux Falls Washington, SD (1951-64) 9 Phoenix Union, AZ (1920-28) 8 Charlotte Independence, […]

By Billy Hull on September 4, 2013

Kaiser linebacker Fitou Fisiiahi told the Star-Advertiser’s Paul Honda on Wednesday night that he has committed to play football at Oregon State next season. “One hundred percent,” he said. “I’m not going to change my mind. They came here to see me. They offered me first.” Fisiiahi was considered a soft commit to the University of Hawaii, but was open with the coaching staff about exploring other options. He also had offers from Nevada, Utah and Washington State and was […]

Kalani football thinking playoffs?

By Billy Hull on September 4, 2013

Playoffs? For Kalani football? That’s where the Falcons find themselves heading into a pivotal game against Radford on Friday night in a battle of two quarterbacks who will throw it all over the field. The final numbers should be pretty big when Radford’s Cody Lui-Yuen (643 yards, 8 TD, 3 INT, 51-percent passing in 3 OIA White games) and Kalani’s Noah Brum (698 yards, 9 TD, 3 INT, 53-percent passing in 3 OIA White games) square off in a game […]

Pupule’s ballot: No. 1a or No. 1b?

By Paul Honda on September 3, 2013

Dear Prep Football Top 10 Voters, My name is Paul. My mom called me Pupule from time to time. That’s saying something because she saw her share of crazy things in her life growing up, and she called me insane. But I am not insane, actually. It’s this week’s Football Top 10 that is bordering on being ridiculous, or as the kids say, ridonkulous. Here’s how I voted, which is not to say I have the perfect ballot. But in […]

Video: #5 Waianae at Aiea

By Paul Honda on September 2, 2013

Waianae’s steadfast ground attack took a toll on a gritty Aiea defense that spent a lot of time on the field.
