Punahou-Kamehameha a pivotal game

By Jason Kaneshiro on September 9, 2013

Punahou didn’t wait very long after Saturday’s win over Damien to start preparing for a matchup with second-ranked Kamehameha. “We’re watching film right now,” quarterback Larry Tuileta said before heading to the locker room following the 48-0 victory at Alexander Field. Punahou (3-0, 1-0 ILH) edged Kamehameha (5-0, 2-0) by a single point for the top spot in last week’s Star-Advertiser rankings, and Saturday’s game — the finale of an ILH tripleheader at Aloha Stadium — will be a pivotal point […]

Video: #2 Kamehameha vs. #9 ‘Iolani

By Paul Honda on September 8, 2013

Part 1 Part 2 Goliath handled his business against David. The Raiders looked crisp and precise early with a scoring drive on their second possession. But Kamehameha sticks to what works well: hard-nosed defense and a battering-ram offense. Warriors running back Brandon Kahookele went for a career high 244 yards on 27 attempts, not far off the school record held by Chad Mahoe. See game action in parts 1 and 2, and post-game interviews in part 2.

Makekau makes good on start

By Brian McInnis on September 8, 2013

Senior Brandon “Pono” Makekau rewarded his coach’s faith with some memorable moments on Friday night. The Castle quarterback made good on his first start of the season with 21-for-28 passing for 193 yards and two touchdowns (both to Ikaika Urasaki) and no interceptions in about 2 1/2 quarters of work in a key 21-7 win over McKinley. The 5-foot-10 Makekau led the Knights in passing three times as a junior in 2012, so he wasn’t totally unfamiliar with the role. […]

Mililani expects to get back to full strength soon

By Hawaii Prep World on September 7, 2013

After Mililani pulled away from Waipahu without one of its top performers, coach Rod York anticipates the Trojans being back at full strength the next time they take the field. Mililani running back Vavae Malepeai sat out the Trojans’ 39-12 win on Friday due to bruised ribs. Mililani has a bye next week, and York said Malepeai will be back for the Trojans’ Sept. 20 game against Campbell. York added that the Trojans are also set to welcome slot receiver […]

Kamehameha kills clock, ‘Iolani

By Jerry Campany on September 7, 2013

Of all the drives that ended in touchdowns for Kamehameha in the Warriors’ win over ‘Iolani at Aloha Stadium on Friday night, one that didn’t end with a touchdown celebration might have been the most important. Kamehameha’s offense scored on four of its last six drives, settling for a field goal on their first one after halftime and taking a knee to end their last one of the game. The Warriors lined up to receive the second-half kickoff clinging to […]
