Govs go ahead 7-0 on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Montana Liana to Chrstian Bacani. This despite five penalties against Farrington during Kailua’s opening drive. The Surfriders took almost 6 minutes off the clock but stalled. Govs 7, Surfriders 0, 2:07, first quarter.

5:55 p.m.
Farrington got a long run on its next play from scrimmage, but fumbled the ball inside the 10-yard line. It bounced into the end zone, where Kailua emerged out of a pileup with the ball. One of those strange, but not entirely surprising plays from two teams with a lot of young players.

Kailua ball. Farrington has jumped offside for the fourth time already. They’ve made up for it somewhat with a torrent of sacks on Kailua QB Noah Auld.

This is the smallest offensive line I’ve ever seen from Kailua.

6:10 p.m.
Sanele Lavatai blasts up the middle for a 73-yard touchdown run. Govs 14, Surfriders 0, 6:30, second quarter.

6:29 p.m.
Lavatai scores around left end for a 15-yard touchdown run. Govs 21, Surfriders 0, 1:10, second quarter.

Desperate heave by Noah Auld leads to a 25-yard touchdown pass to Christian-Taylor Scheer. Govs 21, Surfriders 7, 2:39, third quarter.

Kailua recovered the on-side kick, but failed to convert a first down and punted.

Lavatai with another touchdown, a 4-yard run. Govs 28, Surfriders 7, 11:38, fourth quarter.

7:39 p.m.
25-yard touchdown pass from Auld to Matthew Gaspar. Govs 28, Surfriders 14, 8:36, fourth quarter.

7:58 p.m.
Kekoa Sasaoka hits a 41-yard field goal. Govs 31, Surfriders 14, 2:20, fourth quarter.

Final: Farrington 31, Kailua 14. Surfriders had 34 suited up. Coach Gary Rosolovich said six starters were out with injuries. Governors looked good in some areas. The offsides issue is big. Billy Hull counted nine of them. I lost track after seven or so. But I like the way they play defense, mistakes and all. And the O-line is improving. Lavatai hit those holes HARD and with conviction. No cute stuff, no dancing around.

Coach Randall Okimoto confirmed that the entire team does extra when penalties rack up. Monday practice will be a fun one for the Govs.
