Video: Castle at #5 Waianae

By Paul Honda on October 15, 2013

Part 1 Part 2 Waianae 37, Castle 7. That doesn’t tell anyone exactly how tough Castle’s defense was for a stretch early in the game. The Seariders, playing at home, struggled to run the ball against a Castle defense with eight, sometimes nine in the box. But eventually, Castle’s ironmen bent a little, the offense made mistakes, and the Seariders took advantage.

OIA White playoff games set

By Hawaii Prep World on October 14, 2013

The OIA White’s football playoffs are set, with the first two games scheduled for Friday night. Fourth-seeded Radford heads to top-seeded Kaiser, and while the Rams are away, No. 2 seed Kalani and No. 3 seed Pearl City will be using their field. Both games follow 5 p.m. junior varsity games. Pearl City’s 7-6 victory over Radford in the regular-season finale on Friday night caused a three-way tie for second place in the conference between the Chargers, Rams and Falcons. […]

More than just for kicks

By Jerry Campany on October 14, 2013

Last week, when Kapolei’s Paige Mahuka punched though a PAT in a win over Kailua, the senior joined a very select club. Mahuka became one of only 16 girls to score a point in a high school football game on Oahu, according to Dan Cisco’s “Hawai’i Sports: History, Facts, and Statistics” and a running list since the book was published. Mahuka and the Hurricanes play host Farrington at Roosevelt in an OIA playoff game on Friday, and Kapolei coach Darren […]

Photo Tour: Waianae

By Paul Honda on October 13, 2013

I hadn’t been back to Waianae since last year, so this was a treat. If not for a busy Saturday, I would’ve tried out that restaurant on the main road that Eli Kapu always raves about. But they close after lunch. Instead, I got there before kickoff and shot game video from ground level. That’s sometimes more intense and entertaining, especially when run-first teams are involved. Castle showed a lot of mettle and actually kept the Seariders ground game under […]

By Jason Kaneshiro on October 13, 2013

Moanalua’s season ended with a 54-17 loss to Leilehua on Friday night, also capping a record-breaking senior season for quarterback Micah Kaneshiro. Kaneshiro completed 28 of 46 passes for 295 yards and two touchdowns in his final game for Na Menehune. Pressed into duty early in his junior year, the 5-foot-7, 170-pounder finished his senior year with 2,719 yards and 25 touchdowns against six interceptions. “I just told him I appreciate him and how much he’s grown so much from […]

Kailua goes out on a high note

By Jerry Campany on October 13, 2013

Kailua coach Gary Rosolowich might have a hard time getting his kids to turn in their pads this year. The Surfiders wrapped up a disappointing season with the rally of a lifetime in the fourth quarter of their 42-24 playoff loss at Kapolei on Friday night. The Surfriders closed out their third straight losing season with a 2-7 record. “We just told the kids to keep on going,” Rosolowich said. “We wanted them to change the reality on the field […]

Video: Waipahu vs. McKinley

By Paul Honda on October 13, 2013

The Marauders like their black flag. They like to hike it up after a victory. A win over McKinley would’ve qualified as a big win, but it wasn’t to be.
