Kapolei defensive lineman Kingston Fernandez has committed to play football for Washington State, according to Hurricanes coach Darren Hernandez. Fernandez also had offers from Arizona State, Cal, Colorado and several Mountain West Conference schools. He amassed 17 sacks this season. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound defensive end is the third Hurricane to commit since the season ended. In early November, defensive tackle Kalani Vakameilalo committed to Oregon State. Gatorade honors Tuileta again

Punahou quarterback Larry Tuileta was so impressive, Gatorade honored him again as the Hawaii football player of the year. The award is based on achievements on the field and in the classroom. On the field, Tuileta directed a potent Punahou offense as the Buffanblu won the state championship. He finished the season with 2,647 yards, 28 touchdowns and just five picks. The East didn’t have the marquee programs — D-I state finalists Punahou and Mililani are part of the West. But the East defense stole the show, and Kalani’s Noah Brum connected for three touchdown passes, including two highlight plays to Saint Louis wide receiver Devan Stubblefield.

Poi Report: Kapolei’s Kapoi commits to Wisconsin

Kapolei offensive lineman Micah Kapoi has committed to play football for the University of Wisconsin. Hurricanes coach Darren Hernandez confirmed the announcement by phone on Sunday night. “Micah committed to play center/guard for the Wisconsin Badgers of the Big Ten. He is looking to major in business and was very impressed by their business school,” Hernandez wrote on his Facebook page. Kapoi, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound senior, also plays basketball.
