There’s good news and bad news for the Waialua football team. We’ll start with the bad: the Bulldogs will not have a junior varsity team this season due to a lack of players. But, all is not lost. Kapolei’s Auwae headed to UCLA

Kapolei offensive lineman Sean Auwae made his college commitment Friday morning on Twitter, posting a video with his Hurricanes teammates announcing his decision to attend UCLA next season. Auwae had announced a top six earlier this week that included the Bruins, Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, Louisville, Utah and Oregon State. Mililani up to No. 7 in national rankings

Mililani hasn’t played a regular-season game yet and went from No. 18 to No. 7 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings in less than a week. The defending Division I state champion Trojans were in double digits when the rankings came out on Aug. 8 and are in the single digits in the latest release Thursday. Unlike its two previous high school football encounters in Hawaii this season, Fagaitua, the champions from American Samoa, will play in a real game for the third one. Saint Louis athletic director Wade Okamura confirmed on Thursday that the Aug. 21 nonleague game between Saint Louis and Fagaitua at Aloha Stadium has been sanctioned by the National Federation of High School Associations and the Hawaii High School Athletic Association. Kamehameha senior quarterback Fatu Sua-Godinet has a knee strain and will be out of action for two weeks, head coach Doug Cosbie told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser on Thursday. Sua-Godinet hurt the knee during Kamehameha’s season-opening 33-13 win at Waianae last Friday. He won’t play on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. against visiting Baldwin of the Maui Interscholastic League at Kamehameha’s Kunuiakea Stadium, and will likely miss the Aug. 21 game at Hilo on the Big Island. Waialua to forfeit all junior varsity games

Waialua will not be fielding a junior varsity football team this season, and all of its scheduled games have been forfeited, Oahu Interscholastic Association football coordinator Harold Tanaka told Hawaii Prep World on Thursday. Tanaka did not give a reason for the forfeits, but judging by Waialua’s low participation numbers for varsity and JV football, it’s likely due to a lack of numbers.
