By Hawaii Prep World on August 17, 2015

After beating its second ranked team in as many weeks to start the season, Kahuku did enough to earn a first-place vote in the latest Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 Football Media Poll. Everyone else agreed that defending state champion Mililani should hold down the top spot, as it does for the third consecutive week. Despite the first-place vote, the Red Raiders are still ranked fourth, trailing two ILH schools, in the rankings released Monday. Saint Louis, which has been No. […]

Playmakers Shine for Nanakuli, Kalaheo

By Kyle Galdeira on August 16, 2015

While both Nanakuli and Kalaheo suffered lackluster non-conference losses to open the 2015 campaign, the Golden Hawks and Mustangs proved Saturday night that watching their playmakers in action are worth the price of admission. The Golden Hawks relied on a fluid offense and tenacious “D” en route to a 28-14 victory over Kalaheo in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II season opener for both squads at Kailua High School. Nanakuli’s studs stepped up first, including junior quarterback Nainoa Banks, who […]

‘Football is supposed to be fun.’

By Jerry Campany on August 15, 2015

Losing coaches and fans aren’t the only ones who have had their fill of blowouts. Winning coaches don’t count it as the best use of time, either. Rod York, coach of defending champion Mililani, was just glad it was all over when the clock struck zero on his team’s 73-14 rout of undermanned McKinley on Saturday. “It wasn’t fun for McKinley and it wasn’t fun for us,” York told Star-Advertiser reporter Kyle Sakamoto. “It wasn’t a fun game. Football is […]

By Nick Abramo on August 15, 2015

Castle’s Keola Lewis was hurt on a kickoff return in the third quarter of the Knights’ game against Campbell on Saturday night at Aloha Stadium. The Knights had just scored a touchdown to pull to within one point at 20-19 and had just kicked off to the Sabers with less than five minutes left in the third quarter. Lewis was down on the field — with his arms and legs moving — when he was placed on a stretcher and […]

Kamehameha’s Yam breaks Spencer’s mark

By Billy Hull on August 15, 2015

Caleb Spencer‘s single-game passing mark lasted 13 years at Kamehameha. Leave it to a sophomore backup to break it. Thomas Yam, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound sophomore, stepped in for injured starter Fatu Sua-Godinet and despite playing only one snap in the second half, threw for a school-record 323 yards and four touchdowns in a 53-0 win over Baldwin on Saturday at Kunuiakea Stadium. Yam completed 70 percent (21-for-30) of his passes with star wideout Kumoku Noa hauling in seven of them […]
