LIVE BLOG: Pac-Five 29, St. Francis 18, F

By Paul Honda on September 11, 2015

FIRST QUARTER Saints punt after picking up a first down. Wolfpack drive 55 yards in five plays. Kainoa Ferreira to Clayce Akeo on a nice back-shoulder throw for a 30-yard TD. Ferreira is doing something unique out of the shotgun, running as if it’s a QB draw, then stopping and hitting his wideouts with bullets. PAC 7, STF 0, 6:33. Procedure penalties hurting the Saints, who get another first down but stall. Passing game is out of sync, but they’re […]

Konawaena has best record in Neighbor Islands

By Nick Abramo on September 11, 2015

Konawaena waited until Monday to play its game that was originally scheduled for Friday last week and the Wildcats won 34-27 at home against Hilo. The Wildcats improved to 4-0, the best record among 16 teams from the Neighbor Islands. The Vikings had a chance to tie the game on its last possession but time ran out, according to West Hawaii Today. Kapaa was idle last week and remained at 3-0, and Kamehameha-Hawaii improved to 4-1 with a 39-27 victory […]

LIVE BLOG: Punahou 59, ‘Iolani 22

By Billy Hull on September 11, 2015

Six days after its impressive come-from-behind victory over Del Oro in California, the Punahou Buffanblu are back home to kick off the 2015 ILH season. The four-time defending league champions head down the road to face ‘Iolani, which makes its Division I debut after dominating in Division II for over a decade. The Buffanblu have won 14 of the last 16 meetings and have scored at least 56 points in each of the last three games against the Raiders. Field […]

Still a rivalry? ‘Iolani and Punahou

By Paul Honda on September 11, 2015

Academically, ‘Iolani and Punahou are among the giants of Hawaii high school education. Athletically, and particularly on the football field, what was once a fairly-even matchup is no more — unless unranked and youthful ‘Iolani proves otherwise this afternoon in a home game against the Buffanblu at Eddie Hamada Field. Let’s face it. The biggest reason why the ILH forced ‘Iolani to play Division I football this year is to appease its D-I programs, who had been stuck with a […]

Epilogue: Give us Liberty, or…

By Paul Honda on September 11, 2015

Rod York and the Mililani Trojans have moved on, that’s certain. But the charismatic football coach had this to say (text, actually) upon reflection after a 76-53 loss at Liberty, Nev. last weekend. It was the same Liberty team that came to the islands and lost to Saint Louis, 43-16, just one week earlier. “They outmatched us physically,” York wrote. “Up front to their three big fullbacks to their powerful, quick backs. We have not seen those types of athletes […]

Friday Game Notes: 9/11

By Billy Hull on September 11, 2015

If it seems like the OIA season has been going on for a month while the ILH hasn’t kicked off yet, you’re right. Four weeks after the OIA began regular-season play, the ILH season kicks off with three games this weekend. ‘Iolani makes its Division I debut since dominating Division II play for the last 10 years hosting Punahou. Here’s a look at Friday’s games: ILH No. 2 Punahou (3-0) at ‘Iolani (2-1), 3:15 p.m. >> From the first Prep […]

Anuenue still not ready, forfeits fifth game

By Jerry Campany on September 10, 2015

Anuenue will forfeit this weekend’s scheduled game against Kalani, the fifth straight contest it has bowed out of. The school, which forfeited three games last year, opened the season with a 62-0 loss to St. Francis and has not had enough healthy players to suit up for a league game yet. Anuenue has three games remaining on its schedule, at Nanakuli, at Roosevelt and at Waialua. The latest forfeit gives Anuenue a 25-game losing streak, but only 16 of those […]
