Cosbie steps down at Kamehameha

Doug Cosbie informed Kamehameha on Wednesday that he is stepping down as head football coach, effectively immediately, Hawaii Prep World has learned. Cosbie went 19-9 in three seasons at Kamehameha but was 10-7 in his last two years after going 9-2 in 2013. The Warriors finished 2-4 in the ILH in 2015, marking their first losing season in league since 2007. A phone call and text to Cosbie were not immediately returned. Mililani’s Tovi commits to Utah State

Mililani offensive lineman Andru Tovi tweeted Monday that he orally committed to Utah State. Tovi, a 6-foot-3, 325-pound guard, was part of the Trojans’ state Division I championship team in 2014, when he was named to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State first team, and Mililani’s state runner-up team in 2013. Colorado offers 2 Kahuku juniors

Kahuku’s historic defensive season in 2015 apparently has not gone unnoticed by major Division I college football coaches. Red Raiders cornerback Kekaula Kaniho and defensive lineman Aliki Vimahi picked up scholarship offers from Colorado on Monday night. Both Kahuku juniors posted the news on their Twitter accounts. Mililani celebrates Malepeai’s bowl invite

Friends and family of Vavae Malepeai gathered at the Mililani High School gym on Monday to celebrate the running back’s selection to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Malepeai, Hawaii’s all-time leading rusher and a three-year starter at running back for the Trojans, is one of close to 100 seniors across the country who have been selected to play in the game at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Jan. 9. Malepeai is Gatorade player of the year

Mililani senior running back Vavae Malepeai was chosen Tuesday as the Gatorade Hawaii Football Player of the Year. Malepeai led the state with 1,930 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns on 227 carries in 13 games. He also caught 10 passes for 171 yards and five touchdowns in leading the Trojans to an appearance in the state semifinals and a 10-3 overall record. Under Armour is in the islands today to recognize Kaiser senior Michael Eletise. See the video here. Salanoa proud of all the Rams who came back

Fred Salanoa will remember the titles, but he’s more proud of the boys he coached than the hardware. Before stepping down on Monday, Salanoa spent 13 seasons as the head coach at Radford, where he led the Rams to the state Division II championship and the OIA D-II regular-season and playoff titles this season. His Rams also won the league D-II crown in 2005. Salanoa spoke glowingly about the players who he’s coached that have returned to make a difference. […]
