Malepeai leads All-American bowl in rushing

Mililani’s Vavae Malepeai, the state’s all-time high school leading rusher, passed his first test on a big stage. Malepeai ran eight times for 66 yards, the most of any running back at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday at San Antonio’s Alamodome. June Jones is new Kapolei offensive coordinator

Kapolei football coach Darren Hernandez said on Saturday night’s OC-16 telecast of the Junior Prep Sports Paradise Football Classic that June Jones will take over as his offensive coordinator next season. Jones, the former University of Hawaii football coach, who was last at SMU, will take over an offense led by current freshman Taulia Tagovailoa. The championship game of the inaugural JPS Paradise Football Classic should be fun as Hawaii West and American Samoa go head-to-head in the nightcap tonight at Aloha Stadium. We’re back for the second and final night of the Junior Prep Sports Paradise Football Classic at Aloha Stadium. Only 48 hours between games for these guys, so we’ll see how they respond. Alakai Yuen wore his Moanalua helmet, but it was hard to tell. Before the game, he put stickers with the Kahuku, Punahou and Waialua logos on it. The inaugural Jr. Prep Sports Paradise Football Classic begins tonight with two games at Aloha Stadium. The first game pits an all-star team made up of players from the West Coast against a team from American Samoa. The West Coast team featured WR/DB Trey Hoskins, a 6-foot-2, 165-pound senior from Dougherty Valley (Calif.) High who has committed to the University of Hawaii.
