Punahou’s Taulapapa offered by Virginia, Navy

Punahou running back Wayne Taulapapa is taking an official football recruiting visit to Virginia this weekend. Taulapapa was recently offered scholarships by the Cavaliers and Navy, his father Mani Taualapapa said Wednesday. “He won’t be making any decisions until after the visit to Virginia,” Mani Taulapapa said. Former Mililani DT Perese commits to Kansas

Former Mililani football player Manaia Perese committed to play for Kansas, according to reports on ESPN.go.com and 24/7Sports.com. Perese, who also goes by the first names Mana or Mene, is a 6-foot-3, 277-pound defensive lineman. He last played for the Trojans in Fall 2012, his senior season. He went on to play for Weber State and Snow College. Perese also has an offer from Tulsa.

ILH’s Matias and Chow commit to Air Force

Two Interscholastic League of Honolulu football players have committed to Air Force. Punahou safety Justin Matias gave his oral commitment to the Falcons, Buffanblu head coach Kale Ane confirmed Tuesday. Matias made his commitment Jan. 16. Caleb Chow, a Kamehameha defensive end, also committed to Air Force, according to his Twitter account. “Extremely happy and blessed to announce my commitment to the United States Air Force Academy #boltbrotherhood,” he tweeted Tuesday. ‘Iolani offensive lineman Josh Hauani’o joined the ever-growing list of local football players that will stay home for college when he committed to the University of Hawaii on Tuesday night. Hauani’o, a 6-foot-4, 300-pound senior, was offered by Hawaii head coach Nick Rolovich on Monday and took 24 hours to mull over a decision before letting the coaching staff know of his commitment. Kamehameha senior defensive tackle Alema Kapoi will take his final recruiting trip of the season to Navy this weekend. Kamehameha linebacker Tainoa Foster, who was named to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser all-state first team last month, committed to Fresno State on Saturday. Foster, who also had offers from Washington State, Hawaii and Utah State, made his pledge while on his official visit with the Bulldogs. The University of Hawaii received a big time commitment on Monday when Kahuku defensive back Keala Santiago announced on Twitter he will stay home for college. Santiago, who is 5-foot-11 and 187 pounds, was the Honolulu Star-Advertiser defensive player of the year as a senior for the undefeated state champion Red Raiders.
