By Nick Abramo on February 3, 2016

One lineman, one linebacker, one defensive back. They were the very leadership core of the Kahuku defense and now they’ll be going off on their own college paths. On Wednesday at the Kahuku gym, they stepped up to the podium and told friends and family where they’ll be going. And then they signed their national letters of intent. Defensive end Bradlee Anae and linebacker Hirkley Latu announced for the first time where they’ll be playing football. Safety Keala Santiago made […]

By Paul Honda on February 3, 2016

We’re minutes away from official signing of life-altering paperwork that will impact the lives of dozens of athletes, including football players, at this morning’s PIAA Letter of Intent signing event at the Sheraton Waikiki. This is the first time I have a smart phone (instead of a flip phone) at this annual ceremony and it is awesome. This is unofficially the happiest place in the world for the next few minutes. Almost everybody is smiling. Marcus Mariota is here. He […]

The top two wide receivers in the state this past season are staying home for college. Kamehameha’s Kumoku Noa announced on Twitter on Monday night that he will stay home and play for Hawaii, joining Mililani’s Kalakaua Timoteo at UH. Both receivers were named to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser all-state first team in December and were the top two in the state in receiving yardage. Despite playing for four different starting quarterbacks, Noa became just the seventh player in Oahu high […]

By Billy Hull on January 31, 2016

Kamehameha’s Alema Kapoi was leaning toward committing to Navy when visits to West Point and the Air Force suddenly opened his recruitment up. Over the weekend, Navy closed the door on it. Kapoi gave his commitment to the Midshipmen coaching staff Sunday after finishing his official visit. He was hosted by Kamehameha alumnus Blaze Ryder and ultimately wanted to be a part of a winning program. “It’s not cockiness, but (Navy) has a lot of swagger to them about how […]

By Nick Abramo on January 30, 2016

The Pro Bowl is Sunday and the Super Bowl is one week later, so you know what that means — the end of football season. So, before it’s too late, let’s catch up with a former Hawaii high school player who had perhaps the biggest season out of anyone from around here — Clemson defensive tackle Scott Pagano. Pagano and his Tigers were 45-40 losers to Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game. He played four years at Moanalua, but […]
