Alabama offers Taulia Tagovailoa, too

By Nick Abramo on July 30, 2016

Taulia Tagovailoa is attending the Kapolei football team’s camp this weekend, so he might not even know at this moment that Saturday morning, the Alabama Crimson Tide offered him a scholarship. “We got a call from (Crimson Tide offensive coordinator) Lane Kiffin this morning and he told me they want to make an offer to Taulia,” said Galu Tagovailoa, Taulia’s father. “Lane told me that he wanted Taulia to be a part of their family.” It might not be a […]

LIVE BLOG: Kahuku/Farr/Pun scrimmage

By Paul Honda on July 30, 2016

Slightly behind schedule but it’s awesome nonetheless. PUN offense vs. KAH defense Buffanblu fairly conservative, first play is a dive for little gain. Third and 1, long pass is caught out of bounds. Great dive for that. KAH #10 and #21 virtually untouched for sacks. Sorry no rosters for scrimmages. I’ll track back later for IDs. PUN punt snap dribbles but scrimmages mean no serious heat on special teams. KAH offense vs. FARR defense Very conservative by KAH, but they […]

By Billy Hull on July 29, 2016

Star-Advertiser Preseason Top 10 Countdown Today: No. 8 Waianae It came from just about everyone at practice on Wednesday. Head coach Walter Young talked about it. Quarterback Jaren Ulu was excited for it. Even a few supporters of the football team watching the approximately 160 varsity and junior varsity football players working out at Raymond Torii Field were quick to point out a new dimension to the Waianae offense. “This team is going to throw it a little bit,” one […]

VIDEO: FB scrimmage season begins on Oahu

By Nick Abramo on July 28, 2016

Waipahu visited Mililani for a football scrimmage last night as the two Central Oahu teams unofficially kicked off a new season. Both teams had success moving the ball on each other and both teams emptied the benches to give playing time to the second- and third-stringers. The Marauders will be moving down to Division II this year. The Trojans, after having lost a wealth of talent to graduation, are working on their new identity and getting up to speed for […]

By Nick Abramo on July 28, 2016

Players from the Waianae and Kamehameha football teams joined forces for a public service project recently. The Warriors and Seariders, along with head coaches Walter Young of Waianae and Abu Maafala of Kamehameha, worked on a cleanup at Maili Beach Park in Waianae on July 14. “It was just us two teams teaming up before we play our preseason game (Aug. 5 at Kamehameha),” Maafala wrote in a text to Hawaii Prep World. Added Young: “We cleaned up rubbish and […]

Waipahu and Pearl City to get FB upgrades

By Nick Abramo on July 28, 2016

Waipahu and Pearl City won’t be playing their home games on campus this football season. The sacrifice is well worth it, though. Both the Marauders’ and Chargers’ football stadiums are getting major upgrades, with Fieldturf and eight-lane tracks that meet Hawaii High School Athletic Association standards. Waipahu and Pearl City will play their home games at Aiea. “It’s long overdue, but worth the wait,” Waipahu head coach Bryson Carvalho said. “They were waiting for the rail work to be finished […]
