By Paul Honda on September 13, 2016

(Part 1 features a handful or so of quarterback summaries in no particular order. Part 2 will be posted later this weekend. Maybe. WRs and RBs next week, along with updated QB summaries.) Sometimes, numbers are nothing more than false representations of an athlete’s true value. Baseball? A hitter could be a .400 guy with nobody on base, but a .100 guy with runners in scoring position. Basketball? Take 30 shots a game, and a true scorer should be averaging […]

No superstars for 4-0 Pearl City Chargers

By Paul Honda on September 11, 2016

In the land of purple people with a purpose, Robin Kami is the instiller. Kami was a youth coach for years before entering the Chargers program, and in the years since becoming head football coach at Pearl City High School, the constant has been simple: Team. The Chargers are 4-0 in Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II play after a 21-7 win over previously unbeaten Waipahu on a wet Saturday night at Aiea High School’s field. The Chargers have all the […]

By Christian Shimabuku on September 11, 2016

There’s a reason Kaleo Aloha Piceno is listed as an athlete on the Leilehua roster. The senior lined up at quarterback, running back and wide receiver in the Mules’ 37-15 victory over Kailua on Saturday night, and has done so throughout the season. “I’m just blessed that the coaches trust in me,” Piceno said. “I’m just able to lead these guys and they’re making me look good. That’s how I see it.” Piceno displayed the skills necessary for each position […]

For Kamehameha, it’s about the ‘want to’

By Nick Abramo on September 11, 2016

Kamehameha got a pretty nice 50-20 home win over ‘Iolani on Saturday night and it served as a confidence-builder for the Warriors, who fell to Punahou 56-14 a week earlier. On the offensive side of the ball, things went smoothly on the ground and through the air. Kanoa Shannon rushed for 88 yards on 19 carries and Boogie Yam passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more. As a team, the seventh-ranked Warriors gained 540 total yards, 313 via […]
