GAME NIGHT 9/30: Aiea/Moanalua

By Hawaii Prep World on September 30, 2016

The regular season begins to wind down Friday night with the OIA Division I playoffs set to begin next week. Moanalua (3-4, 2-4 OIA Blue) hosts Aiea (3-4, 3-3) with fourth place on the line. Why is that a big deal? The winner likely hosts an OIA first-round playoff game (unless OC-16 gets involved) while the loser would have to go on the road next week. Moanalua is coming off a 42-0 loss to Kahuku last week which marked the […]

GAME NIGHT 9/30: Radford/Campbell

By Hawaii Prep World on September 30, 2016

The regular season begins to wind down Friday night with the OIA Division I playoffs set to begin next week. Campbell (4-3, 4-2 OIA Blue) pulled off one of the biggest wins of any team this season last week against Waianae and can clinch a state tournament berth and a first-round bye in the OIA playoffs with a win over Radford (0-7, 0-6), which plays its final game of the season and still hasn’t scored an offensive touchdown. HISTORY: The […]

GAME NIGHT 9/30: Kalaheo/Kalani

By Hawaii Prep World on September 30, 2016

The regular season begins to wind down Friday night with the OIA Division I playoffs set to begin next week. Things are much different in OIA Division II with the race for the playoffs just beginning. Kalani (2-2, 2-2) is tied with Waialua in the loss column but suffered a two-point loss to the Bulldogs earlier this season. The Falcons need a win to stay in the race against Kalaheo (1-6, 1-5), which plays its final game of the season. […]

Kapule, Punahou offense shine in big rematch

By Nick Abramo on September 30, 2016

It was Nick Kapule‘s night, not Tua Tagovailoa‘s. There are countless ways to tell a story, but sometimes raw data is better than anything. Take a look at how each drive ended in the first half of No. 3 Punahou’s 33-20 upset of No. 2 Saint Louis on Thursday night at Aloha Stadium: Saint Louis 1) punt 2) safety 3) interception 4) punt from own end zone 5) punt 6) interception Punahou 1) touchdown 2) touchdown 3) punt 4) touchdown […]

ILH FB top seed could be a card draw or playoff

By Nick Abramo on September 29, 2016

Playoff formats are usually simple. Not so in the case of Interscholastic League of Honolulu football in both Division I and II. The subject all of a sudden came up in the collective Hawaii fan’s mind on Thursday night after Punahou’s 33-20 upset of Saint Louis at Aloha Stadium. Now, if both teams win out against teams they have already beaten, they will both finish the D-I regular season at 5-1. Well, then what? The No. 1 seed (regular-season champion) […]

Buffanblu-print to stop Tua: Defense, ball control

By Paul Honda on September 29, 2016

The first time, Punahou’s defensive unit sauntered through the mauka tunnel of Aloha Stadium, chins down after a 64-44 loss to unbeaten Saint Louis. That was three weeks ago — an eternity in the world of Interscholastic League of Honolulu athletics. The nature of the gauntlet is simple: Get better or fall behind. It’s an evolutionary food chain that is never more true than it is on the gridiron. Punahou’s convincing 33-20 victory over Saint Louis on Thursday night didn’t […]

Leilehua and Mililani renew Central Oahu rivalry

By Jason Kaneshiro on September 29, 2016

Separated by just five miles along Kamehameha Highway, it took a change in division alignments to keep Mililani and Leilehua apart the last two football seasons. Reunited in the OIA Red this season, the Trojans and Mules close the regular season on Friday with a renewal of the Central Oahu rivalry. Leilehua leads the series 21-15-1 since its inception in 1975 although Mililani has a 12-5 edge since 2000 and won both meetings in 2013 before the two-year hiatus. Along […]
