By Hawaii Prep World on October 10, 2016

Defending state champion Kahuku remains at No. 22 in the latest USA Today Super 25 rankings released on Monday. The Red Raiders were idle last week after finishing the regular season 7-0 in the OIA Blue. Kahuku (7-1) hosts Leilehua (4-4) in the quarterfinals of the OIA playoffs on Friday night at Carlton Weimer Field. There was almost no change in the top 25 as the top 16 teams all remained in the same order as most schools on the […]

OIA D-II playoff teams set

By Hawaii Prep World on October 9, 2016

The regular season champion in OIA Division II will be decided during the final week of the regular season. The four teams to make the playoffs are already set. Kalani could finish with a winning record at 4-3 if it can beat winless McKinley on Friday, however, the best it could do is tie Waialua for fourth place and the […]

Addition by subtraction: Barit’s key decision

By Paul Honda on October 9, 2016

This head coach has been at his program for decades, a stickler and lifer for the community and school. Lincoln Barit has been with Waialua through pretty much a generation of players, wise and low key through all the ups and downs over the years. The past few seasons have been different in one respect. Barit decided to shutter the Waialua JV football program and have healthy numbers at the varsity level rather than struggle to avoid extreme problems in […]

Failauga follows O-line’s lead for Waipahu

By Jason Kaneshiro on October 9, 2016

Although just a freshman, Waipahu running back Alfred Failauga is seasoned enough to appreciate the importance of sending credit to the guys up front. Moments after finishing off a 37-carry, 194-yard performance against Kalani on Saturday, Failauga’s opening comments were directed toward the Marauder offensive line. “I’d just like to thank my line for everything they do, Failauga said. “Without them I wouldn’t be anywhere.” The Waipahu line cleared the way for Failauga to post the seventh highest single-game rushing […]

Balance helps Moanalua in playoff run

By Nick Abramo on October 8, 2016

Hawaii fans know the name Alakai Yuen. He’s Moanalua’s senior quarterback and he is considered one of the top at his position in the state. Usually, Na Menehune’s offense goes as he goes. The team, however, got a huge boost from its running game on Friday night in a 49-7 victory over Castle in the first round of the Oahu Interscholastic Association playoffs. Kea Rodrigues got the call early and often at running back and wound up with 64 yards […]

GAME NIGHT 10/8: Kalani/Waipahu

By Hawaii Prep World on October 8, 2016

A modest three games on the schedule today on Oahu. Waipahu (6-1, 5-1) locks up a playoff berth and a top-two seed in the OIA Division II playoffs with a win over Kalani (3-2, 3-2), which needs a win to stay in the thick of the playoff race. A scenario of five teams finishing 5-2 in the OIA D-II is still possible with a Falcons win. HISTORY: Waipahu is 9-0 all-time against the Falcons. Live updates of the 6:30 p.m. […]
