Milton talks about UCF’s 2 tough losses

By Nick Abramo on October 19, 2016

Former Mililani star quarterback McKenzie Milton told members KnightNews.com that he expects UCF to be a better team toward the end of the season and that the reason the Knights have lost two games in bitter, last-play fashion is that they simply “did not finish.” UCF (3-3) lost 26-25 at home to Temple on Saturday on the last play of the game. On Sept. 17, the Knights had plenty of chances to close out the game but lost to Maryland […]

‘Puns’ vs. ‘Saints’ a Top 10 national game

By Nick Abramo on October 19, 2016

The Punahou vs. Saint Louis football game on Friday night at Aloha Stadium is considered a Top 10 game nationally by CBS MaxPreps. The winner will be the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion and likely earn a better seeding and a bye in the first round of the inaugural Open division state tournament. Punahou (7-1) topped Saint Louis (7-1) 33-20 at Aloha Stadium on Sept. 29 to even the season series at 1-1. The Crusaders beat the Buffanblu 64-44 on […]

HAWAII GROWN: Milton back starting at UCF

By Billy Hull on October 18, 2016

Five months ago, McKenzie Milton was still in school at Mililani finishing up his senior year. In that short span of time, he’s gone from record-setting Trojans quarterback to the No. 1 starting quarterback option at Central Florida. UPDATE: UCF head coach Scott Frost said Monday that Milton is UCF’s starting quarterback “moving forward.” Milton started his third game of the season Saturday in a 26-25 loss to Temple. He finished 13-for-22 for 210 yards and two touchdowns with one […]

Opinion: extra OIA football games are otiose

By Nick Abramo on October 17, 2016

Two surprises came upon this Hawaii Prep World reporter recently. >> The first one was that the Oahu Interscholastic Association’s quarterfinal losers would play an extra game this weekend for seeding purposes in the upcoming Division I state tournament. >> The second one was that Moanalua would be forfeiting one of those games against Campbell. OK, well, from this corner of the world, it seems like those games are unnecessary anyway. There is no title at stake. Yes, the teams […]

Kamehameha remains in Star-Advertiser Top 10

By Hawaii Prep World on October 17, 2016

Kamehameha’s first losing season in 24 years ended Friday in a 57-24 loss to Punahou in the ILH second round. The Warriors finished 3-6 in Abu Ma’afala‘s first year as head coach with all six losses coming to teams ranked in the top five of this week’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser Football Top 10 released Monday. It begs the question. Should a team with a 3-6 record that is forced to play the kind of schedule Kamehameha did still be ranked as […]

Moanalua forfeits game vs. Campbell

By Paul Honda on October 17, 2016

Injuries and illness have temporarily befallen the Moanalua football team. The school announced today that it will forfeit its consolation-bracket game against Campbell. The game had been scheduled for Friday at Mililani’s John Kauinana Stadium. Instead, Moanalua will not play until the upcoming HHSAA Division I state championship tournament. “We’ve had ongoing injuries. The illnesses started coming around the past week (before playing Kapolei), and today we have a bunch more,” Na Menehune Athletic Director Joel Kawachi said. “Right now, […]

Kahuku holds at No. 22 in the nation

By Hawaii Prep World on October 17, 2016

Kahuku’s 63-0 shutout of Leilehua on Friday in the quarterfinals of the OIA Division I playoffs wasn’t enough to move up in the latest USA Today Super 25 national rankings. The Red Raiders (8-1) remained at No. 22 in the nation with every ranked team winning for the second week in a row. Kahuku was especially impressive, notching its fifth shutout of the season and 11th over the last two years under head coach Vavae Tata. The 11 shutouts in […]
