The Punahou vs. Saint Louis football game on Friday night at Aloha Stadium is considered a Top 10 game nationally by CBS MaxPreps.
The winner will be the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion and likely earn a better seeding and a bye in the first round of the inaugural Open division state tournament.
Punahou (7-1) topped Saint Louis (7-1) 33-20 at Aloha Stadium on Sept. 29 to even the season series at 1-1. The Crusaders beat the Buffanblu 64-44 on Sept. 9.
Punahou is ranked No. 2 and Saint Louis No. 3 in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s Top 10.
The top three teams in Hawaii in the CBS MaxPreps national rankings are No. 52 Punahou, No. 68 Saint Louis and No. 93 Kahuku. In the West region, the Buffanblu are tied at No. 11, the Crusaders are No. 14 and the Red Raiders are No. 17.

Duh.. the ILH recruit the bluechippers that are on college radars, so I guess maxpreps ranks by star power bcause Puns and STL have some pretty awesome individual players. If Kahuku win the title again this year maxprep will put kahuku ahead of the ILH schools for one week and then preseason polls will bump the ILH in front again.
That pretty cool. Hawaii gets to see a top ten game nationally……three times a year.
I think MaxPrep had Iolani ranked as the top football school out of Hawaii a couple of years ago because they had the most State Titles. Whatever the case maybe at least our State is getting recognized……

yes 87, St Louis and Punahou do have great individual players. But it was St Louis who started the excessive all-out recruiting. Back in my days, the 1970s, the ILH would take one star player a year out of the OIA. Which evened things out between the ILH and OIA. St Louis ruined everything. They destroyed the competitive balance of Hawaii state football. Punahou had to recruit if they wanted a competitive football program. Which I think their alumni wants. Just as Maryknoll and Iolani alumni want a dominant basketball program. And how Mid-Pacific is determined to be competitive in baseball.
This cannot be a Top 10 game nationwide. Both teams will make the Open playoff. But it does mean something. The winner gets a first round bye and avoids playing Kahuku. Unless Kahuku has one of their 5 turnover games and loses.

But after I invited him to meet me to compare our academic accomplishments he has yet to show up even though I sent him the times, places, and my name on 3 separate occasions.
