ILH underclassmen ineligible for showcase

A total of 13 underclassmen from ILH schools picked to participate in next month’s Junior Prep Sports Paradise Classic at Aloha Stadium will not be allowed to play due to eligibility rules. The league sent out an email to athletics directors this week reminding them of the Outside Participation Policy for the sport of football which does not allow outside participation to football players for the entire school year. Hawaii rosters for JPS Paradise Classic set

The rosters for the two Hawaii teams competing in the JPS Paradise Classic on Jan. 12 and 14 at Aloha Stadium are set. A team from Northern California and another from American Samoa will also compete in the four-team tournament. 2016 Star-Advertiser All-State football team

The 2016 Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State football teams were released in Sunday’s newspaper. Saint Louis quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is the offensive player of the year and Kahuku’s Kekaula Kaniho is the defensive player of the year. After helping Kahuku finish 11-2 this season with an appearance in their second straight state final, defensive backs Kekaula Kaniho and Stokes Nihipali-Botelho along with quarterback Sol-Jay Maiava are in the running for USA Today’s season-ending Top Star award. JPS to host 2nd Paradise Football Classic

The second annual Paradise Football Classic will be held Jan. 12 and 14 at Aloha Stadium and will be televised by OC-16. Put on by Junior Prep Sports, the four-team tournament will again feature two teams from Hawaii, a team from Northern California and one from Samoa. It took almost no time at all for Amosa Amosa to go from former head coach at Campbell to offensive coordinator at another OIA powerhouse.
