Leilehua’s Watson headed to the Pac-12

After originally committing to Washington State in the summer, Leilehua defensive back Charles Watson opened up his recruitment during the fall. He will remain in the Pac-12 but instead will attend Oregon State after making his college commitment during the fourth quarter of the Polynesian Bowl on Saturday night at Aloha Stadium. McKinley hires Silva as head football coach

McKinley has a new football coach, and the Tigers did not have to think out of the box to get him. Pat Silva is a veteran coach and a McKinley alum and will be in charge of trying to turn around the team’s fortunes, according to Tigers athletic director Bob Morikuni. It’s becoming a bit of a pipeline, this Hawaii-quarterbacks-to-the-Sunshine-State thing. Florida Atlantic became the latest university to become entranced with Kapolei quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, offering him a scholarship on Thursday. The connection to FAU is new head coach Lane Kiffin, who was Alabama’s offensive coordinator. Alabama was the first to offer a scholarship to Tagovailoa, a sophomore, during his freshman year. Before the Polynesian Bowl holds its first high school football all-star game on Saturday, it announced its first batch of high school juniors committed to play next year. The list includes two five-star recruits in linebacker Palaie Gaoteote from Bishop Gorman (Nev.), a Mililani transfer, and quarterback Jacob Sirmon from Bothell, Wash. Former Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko has decided he will transfer from Texas Tech after spending two seasons with the Red Raiders. The Farrington alum started all 25 games he was with TTU and compiled 38 tackles with 7 1/2 tackles for loss. The 6-foot-3, 295-pounder also had two sacks and made one interception. After making headlines offering a quarterback from Hawaii before his freshman year, Harbaugh and his Michigan Wolverines finally have some competition in their pursuit of Kahuku quarterback Sol-Jay Maiava.
