OIA weekend-only football schedule is here

The latest Oahu Interscholastic Assocition football schedule is out. As with all schedules, it’s subject to change. The version listed below reflects weekly games being moved from Wednesdays through Saturdays to Fridays and Saturdays only. The changes are due to an agreement made by the OIA and the Oahu Football Officials Association last week. Waianae linebacker Kana’i Mauga tweeted today that he has committed to Southern California, but left room open at the end to potentially change in his mind. Football committee meets; no action yet

The Hawaii High School Athletic Association football committee met Friday at its office on the Kaimuki High School campus to discuss the format for this fall’s state tournament, but no legislative action took place, according to HHSAA executive director Chris Chun and Oahu Interscholastic Association executive director Ray Fujino. Damien’s Padron runs to Gatorade award

Damien’s Christian Padron was named the Gatorade Hawaii track and field athlete of the year Thursday. The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the track. The 5-foot-9, 152-pound Padron won the 100-meter dash with a state-record time of 10.63 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 21.97 seconds at the same meet, leading the Monarchs to third place as a team.
