All was right on this night for Kapolei

By Paul Honda on October 7, 2017

For a program that has endured peaks and valleys like few others, the Kapolei Hurricanes were more than prepared to withstand the challenge from Aiea Na Alii. Though Coach Darren Hernandez didn’t care for a somewhat slow start — four drops — and 13 penalties for 124 yards, in the course of a 41-0 victory over Aiea on Friday night, Kapolei had more than the usual highlights. > Senior defensive lineman Dylan Naehu not only had two of his team’s […]

No. 8 Campbell focused on moving forward

While Kahuku secured a first-round bye in the OIA Division I playoffs, Campbell finished third in the division with a week to recover before facing Castle. Missing from the […]

Waipahu pushing to avoid last season’s fate

By Christian Shimabuku on October 7, 2017

Waipahu’s motivation this entire season is to make sure it doesn’t end like the one before. After Friday’s resounding 56-0 win over McKinley at Roosevelt to close out the regular season, the Marauders (8-0, 7-0 OIA Division II) are in a position to achieve that goal. Last year’s edition was the top seed in the OIA Division II playoffs, made it to the championship game, and lost 36-35 to Waialua. Their next game was the first round of the state […]

A receiver was coming down with all the balls thrown to him — the ones right at him, the high ones, the low ones. It didn’t matter who was throwing it, either. Waialua’s Hunter Apau caught nine passes for 98 yards in a 47-7 season-ending loss to Roosevelt at Tosh Nakasone Field on Friday night. Four came from starting quarterback Justyce Lacar and five were from backup QB Kyler Dicion. Those three players represent the future of the Bulldogs’ offense. […]

Roosevelt ready for first playoff game since 2007

By Nick Abramo on October 6, 2017

Roosevelt is going somewhere it hasn’t been in 10 years — the playoffs — and the Rough Riders tuned up for that appearance with a convincing 47-7 victory over Waialua at Tosh Nakasone Field on Friday night. “Oh yeah! It’s been 10 years,” Roosevelt coach Kui Kahooilihala said. “We’re excited.” Kahooilihala was an assistant under coach Les Parrilla in 2007, the last time the Rough Riders entered the postseason. His son, Lowen Kahooilihala, was the quarterback back then. “We’re trying […]
