Reggie Torres‘ first season as Kahuku head coach in 2006 ended with the Red Raiders winning the state title with a 7-6 victory over Saint Louis. Torres was the coach of the year and won without either the offensive or defensive player of the year on his roster. This was the first of consecutive seasons the Star-Bulletin did not recognize players of the year, giving the Honolulu Advertiser the sole duty of choosing the state’s best.
