This was the first of consecutive seasons the Star-Bulletin did not recognize players of the year, giving the Honolulu Advertiser the sole duty of choosing the state’s best.

Saint Louis receiver Brendyn Agbayani and Campbell defensive lineman Jerry Leaeno were voted the top players on offense and defense. Coach of the year honors went to Waianae’s Harry Mitsui.

Scroll all the way to the league all stars where you will find photos of ILH co-coach of the year Wendell Look of ‘Iolani and OIA White coach of the year Wendell Say. Both are still going strong today — 25 years later — at the same schools.

Saint Louis led the way with 11 selections on the Honolulu Advertiser All-State team and 10 on the Star-Bulletin squad.

Leaeno and Saint Louis’ Vavae Tata were the only two underclassmen selected to both first teams.
