GAME NIGHT 8/4: St. Francis/Radford

By Brian McInnis on August 4, 2018

St. Francis 28, Radford 21, FINAL Jonan Aina-Chaves with a school-record 263 yards rushing. I’ll double check the math soon, but that should stand. Time’s up. St. Francis picks up where it left off after last season’s 8-4 run to the ILH championship game. Radford showed promise; the Rams will get some wins this year. Radford with some costly penalties in the waning moments here. They’ve been unable to get the stop they need. Time dwindling … Rams might have […]

Waipahu earns rare win against Waianae

By Jason Kaneshiro on August 4, 2018

Waipahu entered Friday’s season opener against Waianae with the numbers — in the record book and on the rosters — tilting heavily toward the visiting Seariders. At the end of the night, the figures that mattered most favored the Marauders, and decidedly so. Junior quarterback Cody Marques threw three touchdown passes and ran for another, running back Alfred Failauga churned out 145 yards on 29 carries and Waipahu earned a rare W in the series with Waianae with a 34-13 victory […]

Kapolei impressive in opener, but road gets tougher

By Nick Abramo on August 4, 2018

Kapolei coach Darren Hernandez will not be fooled into thinking early-season wins mean much. The Hurricanes opened 2018 with a 53-7 smashing of Castle, but beating a Division I team is what’s supposed to happen. Still, the team got a complete win. The offense looked good and the defense looked, as usual, mighty imposing. Hurricanes defenders Bubba White, Peni Naulu, Liam McMoore, Tariq Lacaden, Isaiah Mareko, Zechariah Kahelemone, Kevin Burkel and Maceal Afaese put down the thunder on Castle’s offense. […]

Sanchez gets a win in debut as Farrington head coach

By Paul Honda on August 3, 2018

If Daniel Sanchez was nervous about his debut as a head coach, he wasn’t letting it show. In fact, it was the composure of the Farrington football staff, particularly on a night when penalties nearly derailed the Governors’ efforts, that kept the visitors one step ahead of Leilehua on Friday. The Govs pulled away for a 35-16 win as Sanchez saw his team play more consistent football after halftime, when it was close at 14-6. “We’re disappointed with the personal […]

A 12-12 tie feels like a win in Hawaii Kai

By Billy Hull on August 3, 2018

The final scoreboard showed a 12-12 tie between Aiea and Kaiser in the season opener for both teams on Friday night at Kaiser Stadium. Hello, America. The first prep football kickoff of 2018. pic.twitter.com/g28gYIBxrS — Billy Hull (@billyhull) August 4, 2018 But for the home team in particular, the night wasn’t quite as much about the score as it was just having the Hawaii Kai community back packing the stadium for football. The Cougars played their first home game since […]
