OIA-ILH Alliance: D-I blowouts down 24 percent

The first year of the OIA-ILH football regular-season alliance is done, and the numbers are in. There was a startling change between 2017 and 2018 in Division I, where lots of OIA powerhouses left to play in the Open Division this season. Two top-four teams in the state will clash for the OIA Open Division title on Friday at Aloha Stadium as No. 2 Mililani and No. 4 Kahuku both jumped a spot in the latest Honolulu Star-Advertiser Football Top 10 released Monday. Seven teams — No. 1 Saint Louis, No. 3 Mililani, No. 5 Kahuku, Hilo, Waipahu, Kamehameha-Hawaii and Kapaa — punched their ticket into states with victories last weekend. Hilo (8-1), by virtue of its 25-11 playoff victory over Kealakehe at Wong Stadium on Friday, wrapped up the BIIF D-I championship and earned a berth as the defending champion in the Division I state tournament. Lahainaluna and Kapaa get top D-II seeds

MIL champion Lahainaluna and KIF champion Kapaa were awarded the top two Division II seeds in the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA State Football Championships. The top-seeded Lunas (9-0), who are the defending D-II state champions, and second-seeded Warriors (6-2) get a bye in the first round and host a game in the second round.
