News out of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation athletic directors’ meeting will have a big impact for Pahoa, Ka‘u and Kohala. The three schools had fielded eight-man football teams in recent years. Pahoa announced its plan to move into 11-man territory, and Ka‘u and Kohala will follow suit since staying in eight-man isn’t feasible. Saint Louis receiver Matt Sykes has been named a 2020 Polynesian Bowl All Star, the game announced today. Sykes, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound junior, competed in an underclassmen combine at the All-American Bowl last week in San Antonio, Texas, and was named to the All-Combine team. He missed half of his junior year with the Crusaders due to a broken leg and was eased back into the rotation toward the end of the season, finishing with six receptions for 89 yards. […]
