Kalaheo prospect Jordan Neufeldt primed for big year

By Brian McInnis on August 3, 2019

There weren’t a whole heck of a lot of bright spots for numbers-challenged Kalaheo in its season-opening 7-0 loss to visiting Kauai High at Kailuas Alex Kane Stadium on Friday night. Really, THE bright spot was two-way senior standout Jordan Neufeldt. Neufeldt, a 6-foot-3 linebacker/tight end, made plays both ways for the Mustangs, who sought — unsuccessfully — to snap a run of losses in openers going back to 2012. Coach Darrell Poole glowed about Neufeldt before and after the game. […]

Kaiser’s defense comes to play with 10 sacks, two TD’s, in win over Aiea

By Billy Hull on August 3, 2019

Without a quarterback who had taken a snap at the varsity level, Kaiser coach Tim Seaman needs to rely on his defense, especially early in the season. That group gave Kaiser all the offense it needed with two touchdowns as the Cougars beat Aiea for the first time in 23 years with a 21-7 victory on Friday night to open the season at Kaiser Stadium. >> CLICK HERE FOR A PHOTO GALLERY FROM THE GAME After playing to a 12-12 […]

Kauai’s team bonding extends to season-opening win

By Brian McInnis on August 3, 2019

The Kauai High Red Raiders were happy campers a handful of days ago. They were smiling victors on Friday night. Kauai went camping on campus in Lihue under second-year coach Jason Apilado last weekend. Their time together did not end there, as a few days later they traveled to Oahu to take on Kalaheo at Kailua High’s Alex Kane Stadium — a return game of the 2018 opener between the teams on the Garden Isle. It was far from pretty, but […]

Mike Fanoga wins Waianae debut as he tries to bring fans back to the stands

By Paul Honda on August 2, 2019

As the almost immortal Alfred Failauga passed the 200-yard mark with relative ease early in the fourth quarter, it seemed that No. 7 Waipahu would somehow find a way to rally. The visiting Marauders had spotted Waianae a 21-point first-quarter lead, but the home team couldn’t seem to stop Failauga, a 5-foot-9, 190-pound running back. Failauga has been tremendous through three varsity seasons, but now, he is built and performs like a grown man pummeling boys. Or he did, for […]

Leilehua smooth in 35-0 dashing of Farrington

By Nick Abramo on August 2, 2019

Leilehua got off to a fine start to the 2019 football season Friday night, dumping Farrington 35-0 at the Govs’ Skippa Diaz Stadium. The nonleague victory doesn’t mean as much as it would if Farrington was at full strength. The home team was missing 19 players, mostly due to academic probation, according to coach Daniel Sanchez. But that doesn’t take away from the fine form the Division I Mules were in, especially for a season opener against a team that […]

Kapolei’s De’Zhaun Stribling backs up SDSU offer with impressive season opener

By Christian Shimabuku on August 2, 2019

Not many had a Friday as eventful as De’Zhaun Stribling just experienced. On Friday morning, the Kapolei senior woke up to an offer from San Diego State. On Friday night against Castle, he showed why, catching a game-high 10 passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns in a 40-24 win. “It motivated me to push for more and keep working and always be humble,” Stribling said of the gameday offer. Stribling, who is 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, also earned an […]

GAME NIGHT 8/2: Waipahu/Waianae

By Paul Honda on August 2, 2019

Waianae 35, No. 7 Waipahu 20, FINAL The Seariders run out the final 3:35 to secure a big win over the Marauders. Looks like Waianae football has tremendous balance under new coach Mike Fanoga. Marauders driving again, ball at the Waianae 19. Failauga has 227 yards and two TDs on 21 carries. Fourth and goal from the 5, Waianae gangs up on Marques, who can’t pitch to Failauga — covered all the way. No gain, Waianae ball with 3:35 left. […]
