Up the end zone tunnel … and on to UCLA

By Nick Abramo on October 25, 2014

About two hours ago, Fred Ulu-Perry Jr. walked off the Aloha Stadium turf and up the north end zone tunnel for the last time as a high school football player. Just before he stepped into the tunnel, his past became his future, like Dorothy opening the door to her colorful new world in the Wizard of Oz. Ulu-Perry will be going to UCLA on a football scholarship this fall and right there to greet him with a hug and a […]

LIVE BLOG: Punahou 35, Saint Louis 28, Final

By Paul Honda on October 24, 2014

First quarter Slight delay here, my apologies. Had to finish writing my story on the first game (‘Iolani beat Damien 34-14). Jason Kaneshiro is doing the game story for this game and Billy Hull is doing the TRENCH WARFARE post on Fred Ulu-Perry. The scoring opened with a pristine 35-yard bullet from Tua Tagovailoa to Drew Kobayashi on a post route, single coverage, to give STL a 7-0 lead. Tagovailoa scored on a 6-yard run, but STL missed the PAT. […]

TRENCH WARFARE: Uluave vs. Evaimalo

By Billy Hull on October 24, 2014

Punahou senior Semisi Uluave has been a big-time recruiting prospect since way back to his sophomore season. The 6-foot-5, 320-pounder is considered a guard at the next level and says UCLA is his top school right now, but is still looking at both Texas Tech and Oregon. Punahou needs a win over Saint Louis tonight to claim its fourth consecutive ILH Division I championship. In this episode of Trench Warfare, Uluave will match up against Crusaders defensive lineman Tanielu Evaimalo. […]

TRENCH WARFARE: Ulu-Perry vs. Kaumatule

By Billy Hull on October 24, 2014

Saint Louis senior OL Fred Ulu-Perry took care of his college recruitment before the season started, opting to commit to UCLA in July. At 6-foot-2 and 295 pounds, Ulu-Perry is regarded as one of the top high school centers in the country. In this episode of Trench Warfare, Ulu-Perry, who also had offers from Oregon State, Washington, Arizona State, Hawaii, Colorado and Texas Tech among others, goes up against Punahou’s 4-star stud of its own in senior Canton Kaumatule. Kaumatule, […]

VIDEO: #5 Kahuku vs. #4 Farrington

By Paul Honda on October 24, 2014

This was a sloppy, physical, mistake-prone game for both teams, but in the end, immensely exciting, thrilling and dramatic. Down to the last 10 seconds. Kesi Ah-Hoy’s 4-yard TD run gave the Red Raiders a 21-14 win in the OIA Division I semifinal round at Aloha Stadium.

TRENCH WARFARE: Manu vs. Amosa(s)

By Billy Hull on October 23, 2014

Defensive tackle Rex Manu has yet to make up his mind for college. For now he’s busy trying to wreck opposing defenses. The Mililani defensive tackle goes up against Campbell’s Atapana Amosa in tonight’s first OIA Division I semifinal game at Aloha Stadium. As always each series is judged on a 10-point must system like a boxing match. This is purely for fun. SERIES 1 Amosa goes head-to-head with Manu on the first play and holds up as Campbell completes […]
