Two teams from the North Shore had impressive weekends at the Pylon 7v7 football tournament in Las Vegas. Team Hukilau Cafe (high school division) and Team Goat Island (Intermediate) reached the final four of their divisions against some top competition from around the West Coast. The ILH released its ILH boys soccer all-star teams on Monday as voted on by league coaches. Mid-Pacific’s Tyler Allen was named offensive MVP while ‘Iolani’s Trey Curet was named the league’s best defensive player. Both are seniors. As if they needed it, the neighbor islands got another example of its dominance of prep girls basketball. Led by Chanelle Molina again this year, neighbor island girls have been the player of the year in eight of the last nine years. The only exception is Princess Lauvao of Kaimuki in 2013. ‘Iolani junior Hugh Hogland was named the Star-Advertiser’s boys basketball player of the year, joining some elite company and setting himself up to join an even more exclusive list.
