Hurricanes find redemption in the rain

By Jason Kaneshiro on May 1, 2016

It was somewhat fitting that the final out of Saturday’s OIA Division I softball championship ended up in the glove of Kapolei left fielder Dallas Pollard-Brownell. The inning prior, a ball that popped out of her grip helped position Mililani for a third straight OIA crown. But the Hurricanes rallied in the top of the seventh inning with the go-ahead run scoring on Pollard-Brownell’s grounder. Mililani threatened again in the bottom of the inning with a two-out double, but Pollard-Brownell […]

HHSAA does away with spring ‘pads’ practice

By Nick Abramo on April 30, 2016

Hawaii football teams will not be holding spring football practices in pads this year, a departure from past seasons when a period of time was set aside for that purpose. The reason for the change for the Oahu Interscholastic Association and the the three Neighbor Islands leagues (Kauai Interscholastic Federation, Big Island Interscholastic Federation Maui Interscholastic League) is a new rule passed by the Hawaii High School Athletic Association executive board at its last meeting earlier this month. The rule […]

Anuenue likely to switch to JV football only

By Nick Abramo on April 30, 2016

A lot of sporting events and stories happen throughout the year, and whenever you think you can recall most of it, that’s sometimes when certain knowledge slips through the cracks. That’s why when people asked me recently about the status of the Anuenue varsity football team. I didn’t have an answer, forgetting this story that ran in Hawaii Prep World on Sept. 18: Reluctantly, Anuenue decides to end season At the time, Anuenue decided to end its varsity season early […]

Mililani and Kapolei meet for OIA D-I title

By Jason Kaneshiro on April 30, 2016

This much is certain, the OIA Division I softball title will remain in the west for a seventh consecutive year. Whether it stays in Mililani for a third straight season or heads down to Kapolei for the first time since 2005, well, that figures to be a toss-up. The Trojans and Hurricanes split their regular season matchups in tight contests and meet for a third time on Saturday with the OIA Division I title at stake. Mililani will attempt to […]
