Kamehameha’s big blue pool of patience

By Paul Honda on September 17, 2016

There are numbers — one win and two losses in conference play — and then there is hope. The Kamehameha Warriors are playing in a vacuum known as the Interscholastic League of Honolulu. There, even a .500 record is easy to overlook, even tough it would mean posting three wins over Top 10 teams. After a 35-3 loss to No. 2 Saint Louis on Saturday night at Aloha Stadium, Kamehameha’s sideline — the band, the cheerleaders, their spectators — all […]

Waipahu, McKinley on different upward paths

By Nick Abramo on September 17, 2016

The upward path and the football spirit is palpable this season for Waipahu, which is the perfect example of an up-and-down program through the years. The Marauders have bounced between Division I and Division II. Little to no success in the upper tier is often followed by solid play in the lower conference. Well, after a few years of getting beaten up in Division I, Waipahu is back down and in the middle of a hotly contested Oahu Interscholastic Association […]

Emotional farewell for Ulu, Waianae seniors

By Nick Abramo on September 17, 2016

It’s not easy to say goodbye. That’s why Waianae quarterback Jaren Ulu‘s voice cracked just a little bit while he was being interviewed after the Seariders’ 54-0 victory over Radford on Friday night at Raymond Torii Field. Unless Waianae (6-1 5-1 OIA Blue) hosts a playoff game, this was the last time Ulu will be playing on the field he loves so much in front of family and friends and the die-hard fans. A few minutes later, Ulu’s name was […]
