What a game! In case you missed it, Waianae held off Mililani 36-33 in the OIA quarterfinals at John Kauinana Stadium on Saturday night. Game of the year in this book. The Seariders bulldozed to a 23-point, 29-6 halftime lead before Mililani buckled down on defense in the second half and came up with crucial stops to halt the Seariders in their tracks. State Open and D-I football teams set (almost)

All six of the state’s first Open division football tournament spots have been secured. The highly anticipated event starts the weekend of Nov. 4-5. In addition, seven of the eight teams who will play in the Division I tournament have also qualified. Only two of the six teams in Division II have secured state berths. Keeping the Kahuku defense out of the end zone has become just as difficult as scoring on the Red Raiders. The Red Raiders defense has contributed nine touchdowns to Kahuku’s scoring total this season while allowing just four against OIA competition. Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa got in Moanalua’s way. The Kapolei senior defensive lineman helped the host Hurricanes shut down Moanalua in Friday’s 49-9 win in the OIA Division I quarterfinals.
