HHSAA works on Year 2 of 3-tier football system

Hawaii’s three-tier football state tournament is likely to be kept for 2017 and beyond after being run on a pilot basis for 2016. Punahou’s McKenna tops All-State team

The face of high school boys soccer changed a little bit this year. Punahou’s Duncan McKenna gave his school its fifth player of the year award, and second in a row, but that is where the normalcy ended. McKenna was one of only six seniors named on this year’s Star-Advertiser Stellar Eleven, the fewest ever after nine seniors graced last year’s team. Heimuli, Mailou to sign with Paris JC

All-State Fab 15 selection Molimau Heimuli and teammate Chantal Mailou led Farrington to an Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I girls basketball championship last month. In a few more months, Heimuli and Mailou will be en route to Paris Junior College in Texas to continue their playing careers. Salanoa to be an assistant at E. Washington

Former Radford football head coach Fred Salanoa is the new offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at his alma mater, Eastern Washington, he told Hawaii Prep World today. Salanoa most recently was an assistant under Kale Ane at Punahou. He was the head coach at Radford from 2003 to 2015, finishing that stint with a Division II state title. Salanoa is also a former standout quarterback at Radford and Eastern Washington (1999-2001).
