Kaiser to “modify” season due to low numbers

The Kaiser varsity football team is planning to play some games this season, but how many is a question that has not been answered yet. Principal Justin Mew, after a meeting of parents and coaches, said in a statement late Friday night that the Cougars’ season will be modified. Waialua waiting for “OK” on grass field

New grass has been planted on the Waialua football field. When it grows in fully, it will likely be a nice, new gift for the defending Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II champion Waialua Bulldogs. Tokuda takes over as Leilehua athletic director

Nolan Tokuda was a huge part of the Leilehua football renaissance in the early part of the 2000s, and now he is the school’s athletic director. As the football coach, Tokuda brought the Mules to the Division I state championship game in 2004. 2007 and 2008, and that included a 20-16 victory over Saint Louis for the ’07 title. Waipahu’s Russell to play for UH Hilo

Waipahu Kobie Russell has decided to play college baseball instead of signing with the pros. Russell, who played shortstop for the Marauders before graduating in 2017, was drafted as a catcher by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball draft last month. Moanalua finds alternative sites for “home” games

The Moanalua football team has found three homes away from home for the upcoming football season, according to Na Menehune athletic director Joel Kawachi. The plans will still have to be approved by the Oahu Interscholastic Association to become official. The OIA will send out a new schedule when it does become official. Arakawa out as Pearl City baseball coach

Pearl City is looking for a new baseball coach. The Chargers went 6-9 a year ago under first-year head coach Peter Arakawa, and that included a 1-2 run in the OIA Division I playoffs. They didn’t make the state tournament. Arakawa played his high school baseball at Moanalua, and he took over for Gavin Concepcion at Pearl City prior to the 2017 season. Kapolei adds Saint Louis transfer Toilolo at LB

Linebacker Dylan Toilolo, who made the Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State first team as a junior in 2016 at Saint Louis, has transferred to Kapolei. Hurricanes coach Darren Hernandez said Friday that Toilolo, who is 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds, will play linebacker and strong safety. He joined the team on Thursday. “Great feet and hips.
