By Nick Abramo on September 17, 2017

The Neighbor Islands are devoid of an undefeated football team. Usually at this time of year, there are one or two squads from either the Big Island, Kauai and Maui who don’t have a blemish on their overall record. Hilo was the last holdout. The Vikings, who were ranked No. 6 in last week’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 after some impressive early season wins, fell to Konawaena, 24-14, on Friday. The Vikings (4-1, 3-1 Big Island Interscholastic Federation) retained a […]

Saint Louis’ defense simply on another level

By Jason Kaneshiro on September 16, 2017

Saint Louis coach Cal Lee arrived at Aloha Stadium on Saturday “100 percent” concerned with the dual-threat potential of Punahou quarterback Stephen Barber. A dominant Crusader defense eased any anxiety Lee might have felt before kickoff. Saint Louis’ cohesion at all three levels — defensive front, linebackers and secondary — kept Barber contained and helped the top-ranked Crusaders drop him for six sacks in their resounding 49-13 win over the fourth-ranked Buffanblu. Already a clear pick atop the Star-Advertiser top 10 […]

Mizutani led the Raiders to a 55-20 win over a gritty Pac-Five squad on Saturday afternoon at Aloha Stadium. He also joined the exclusive club, becoming only the 15th passer on Oahu to reach the 6,000-yard mark. He did much of it against a tough ILH Division I schedule the past two seasons. Here’s the updated record book. As a […]
