Maryknoll tops Punahou for ILH basketball crown

The ILH boys basketball title came down to the final possession. Maryknoll senior Jordyn Perez converted a 3-point play with 11.1 seconds remaining and the Spartans recovered from blowing a 10-point lead with 3:02 remaining to hold off Punahou 57-52 on Wednesday night for their first league title since 2013. Kamehameha’s Zion Grace Vierra will be trying to put her name along the best in ILH history on Thursday at Kamehameha. Vierra is the top seed at 147 pounds in the ILH championships, and has a bye into the final against teammate Jordan Yogi. Saint Louis’ Cabanban ready for ILH slam

Saint Louis state champion Corey Cabanban will lead the boys field at 126 pounds in the ILH championships on Thursday at Kamehameha. The Crusader is the top seed in his weight class and is the only boy going for the league slam. He won at 108 as a freshman, 113 as a sophomore and 120 as a junior. Kamehameha names new varsity baseball coach

Kamehameha has selected Kahi Kaanoi to run the varsity baseball program on an interim basis. Kaanoi, a Kamehameha alum, was a seventh-round draft pick by the Kansas City Royals in the 2000 MLB draft. He helped the Warriors win an ILH championship that year as the ace of the pitching staff. 7:30 p.m.: Kapolei’s Aaron Faumui, who had committed to UH just seven days ago, has signed with Virginia. Virginia beats out UH, Florida, Oregon, Nebraska among others. Kamehameha gets top seed in state soccer

ILH champion Kamehameha is the top seed in the Queen’s Medical Center/HHSAA Girls Soccer State Championships in Division I. The Warriors won their first league title since 2012 with a 2-0 win over Punahou on Monday and are looking for their first state crown since 2014. Kamehameha has won eight state championships overall in girls soccer and seven under the 12-team format that has existed since 1994. The ILH has won 13 of the last 15 state crowns overall.
