Punahou swept Shittenoji 25-22, 25-23, outlasted Sundai 24-26, 27-25, 25-15, 25-21, and then rallied past Toa 26-28, 25-20, 25-20, 25-19. Coach Rick Tune welcomed the opportunity for his team, a group that he considers potentially his best ever, even after six consecutive state championships — […]

A group of parents and coaches of ILH baseball players have stepped up to give their kids and teammates a chance to play at Les Murakami Stadium this season, beginning today. The ILH agreed to move nine games over four days to Murakami Stadium as long as the parents and coaches guaranteed the ILH would not lose money on renting the University of Hawaii’s field. One parent already gave the ILH a check for $13,231.30, which was the initial estimate […]

Silva’s sterling effort boosts Campbell into OIA West lead

By Paul Honda on March 26, 2018

Instead of tiring, Ayzek Silva did what he has often done in his young career. The 6-foot-1 southpaw grew stronger as the game went along. In fact, in the course of six shutout innings during Campbell’s 2-0 win over Mililani, the junior got better with each inning. After the third inning, the former closer faced just nine batters in the next three innings before departing. He probably could’ve finished the game, which was his role as a freshman. Silva finished […]

Soccer All-State teams: 2009-17

By Jerry Campany on March 25, 2018

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser released its All-State soccer selections today, marking the 20th consecutive year a newspaper has put out an All-State team dating back to the Honolulu Advertiser’s 1998 squads. The newspapers did not put out all-state teams in 1996-97, robbing Brian Ching of Kamehameha of the honor of being player of the year, but the Advertiser did publish teams from 1994-1995. As we did with basketball, we have put together the newspaper clippings from past All-State teams. PREVIOUS 1994-2000 […]
