After 23 years, Kalani baseball coach Hirai retires

Through any challenge he and his staff faced, Kalani baseball coach Shannon Hirai wanted what was best for his Falcons. Baldwin in top 10 of national baseball rankings

The state champion Baldwin baseball team rose six spots in the USA Today Super 25 rankings, moving into the No. 10 spot. The Bears, who beat Waiakea for the state title, moved up from No. 16. The two teams ahead of them, Vero Beach (26-2) and East Lake of California (25-3-1) went from unranked to ahead of the Bears so there is no guarantee Baldwin finishes in the top 10 of the poll. That didn’t take very long. Less than two months after Kamehameha chose not to retain Joe Cho as girls varsity basketball coach, Roosevelt has hired him. Cho’s team at Kamehameha was a regular in the Star-Advertiser Top 10 and contended for the ILH title during his four seasons. Tuitele narrows list to five

Saint Louis defensive lineman Faatui Tuitele, the state’s most heavily recruited football player, has narrowed his list of schools to five. Tuitele posted on Twitter that Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, Washington and Clemson are his finalists. At least count, the 6-3, 270-pound junior had been offered by 39 schools. Galdiano leads UCLA to top seed

Punahou graduate and UCLA sophomore Mariel Galdiano tied for seventh in the individual competition at the NCAA women’s golf championship in Stillwater, Okla. and helped the Bruins tie for the team lead. Galliano carded a 1-under-par 71 at Karsten Creek Golf Club on Tuesday to close the NCAA medal championship among five players at 1 under 287 for the four-day tournament.
