Q&A: Kamehameha’s Keonilei and Braelyn Akana

By Paul Honda on September 11, 2018

Braelyn Akana insists that she is 5-foot-10. She’s actually 5-11, and either way, she will never stop working toward her dreams. One of them is already coming true for the Kamehameha senior. She will play volleyball for Hawaii next season. At 5-foot-9 and skilled in every possible way on the volleyball court, Keonilei Akana is a trusty part of any coach’s team. She just happens to be a key cog for the defending state champion Kamehameha Warriors. “Ke is so […]

The first question was whether Saint Louis’ 30-14 win over Kahuku would drop the Red Raiders from their No. 2 spot. It didn’t, although Kahuku did drop to No. 3 on three of the 10 ballots of media representing all major islands. The changes began after Kahuku with Punahou […]

Leilehua passes huge D-I test against ‘Iolani

By Kyle Sakamoto on September 9, 2018

Leilehua coach Mark Kurisu saw Saturday’s game against ‘Iolani as a measuring stick to see just where his team stands. Looks like the Mules are in phenomenal shape. James McGary, who missed the first three games of the season with a broken right ring finger, rushed 28 times for 223 yards and three touchdowns as host Leilehua pulled away in the second half to beat No. 8 ‘Iolani 31-20 in an OIA/ILH Division I game on Saturday at Hugh Yoshida […]
