Finesse and firepower: Timing is everything for state-tourney bound Punahou

By Paul Honda on October 28, 2021

It’s not the ultimate goal for Punahou, but a five-set win over ‘Iolani on Tuesday certainly opened the door. The Buffanblu fought off the Raiders 25-11, 19-25, 25-9, 21-25, 15-9 to earn a state-tournament berth. With the rest of the state’s leagues still in the early stage of their respective seasons, Punahou is the first team to qualify. They did it through the typical gauntlet that is ILH volleyball, and more. In the end, ‘Iolani and every other opponent could […]

Punahou-Kahuku exhibition game has one caveat: Buffanblu must win ILH

By Paul Honda on October 21, 2021

There is one stipulation, if that, for Punahou and Kahuku to battle on the gridiron this season. Punahou would need to win the ILH title. The fifth-ranked Buffanblu (1-3, 1-3 ILH Open) play second-ranked Saint Louis (2-3, 2-2) on Friday in an elimination playoff. The winner would need to beat Kamehameha the following week for the playoff tournament title, then defeat the regular-season winner one more time for the ILH crown. Then, and only then, Punahou would play OIA powerhouse […]
