‘Iolani girls capture 1st state bowling title

By Paul Honda on November 3, 2018

In her days as a student, Michelle Jung had two classmates with the same first name. To this day, friends call her “Mochi.” It’s on her coach shirt, a sleek polo in dark, brick red and black. The Raiders were slick as the lanes at Hickam Bowling Center on Friday afternoon, completing an arduous run through the Billy Tees/HHSAA State Bowling Championships. ‘Iolani placed first in the girls team competition for the first time. The Raiders’ team score of 6,808 […]

Mililani limits Kahuku to lowest output in OIA since 2014

By Paul Honda on November 3, 2018

The roller coaster doesn’t end for the Kahuku Red Raiders. For Mililani, the blend of experimental laboratory and tough-nosed fundamentals continue well into Coach Rod York’s ninth season. Kahuku’s 27-7 loss to Mililani in the OIA Open championship game on Friday night at Aloha Stadium was, in many ways, a sequel to the first meeting between the teams. In their first matchup, Mililani prevailed 38-10 on Kahuku’s homecoming despite muddy terrain and the home team’s 51-game win streak at Carleton […]

By Jason Kaneshiro on November 3, 2018

Dillon Gabriel didn’t think much of his performance on Friday night. Chances are the Mililani quarterback was in the minority in his assessment. Future is now for Campbell, Farrington frosh QBs

By Nick Abramo on November 2, 2018

Two promising freshmen quarterbacks emerged on the Hawaii football scene in the same game Friday night at Aloha Stadium. Campbell’s Blaine Hipa was a surprise starter over senior Krenston Kaipo, and he delivered in a big way, throwing for 241 yards and four TDs in the Sabers’ 42-26 victory over Farrington. On the opposing side, another ninth-grader — Rjay Tagataese — came in for senior starter Chris Afe-Alaivanu late in the second half. He guided the Governors to three TDs, […]
