Dylan Ramos began Leilehua’s title haul by pinning Kinau Mcbrayer of Kapolei in the 113-pound final and was followed by titles from Kaena Desantos and Naikoa Simao. Peter Natividad (120) and Pookela De Santos (152) contributed second-place finishes. DeSantos controlled Elijah […]

Crisp Kamehameha accelerates into state final

By Nick Abramo on February 1, 2019

Coach Missy Moore has been here before. Her Kamehameha Warriors of 2019 have not. We’re talking about the Division I final of The Queen’s Medical Center/HHSAA Girls Soccer State Championships. It’s Saturday night at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The Warriors got there by dispatching fourth-seeded and MIL champion King Kekaulike with a convincing 6-0 semifinal victory Friday night. One more win, on Saturday against an upstart Campbell squad, will give ILH champion and top-seeded Kamehameha its ninth state championship […]

Campbell can make soccer history with one more win. The Sabers defeated Konawaena 3-0 in the Division I semifinals of The Queen’s Medical Center/HHSAA Girls Soccer State Championships on Friday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. One more test awaits for the unseeded Sabers — against ILH champion and top-seeded Kamehameha — on Saturday night. It will be Campbell’s first appearance in a state title game. The Sabers have had some success at the league level, winning the OIA D-I […]

By Jerry Campany on February 1, 2019

With less than a month left in her high school wrestling career, Kapolei’s Allicia Mahoe is ready to move up. Mahoe, the reigning OIA champion at 97 pounds, will compete at 107 at the OIA West Division championships on Saturday. Mahoe has never won a state title, but has a chance to do something that all but three state champions has ever done. Mahoe will be trying to become the first wrestler in her school’s history to win four OIA […]

Noah Wusstig aims for fourth OIA East title

By Jerry Campany on February 1, 2019

The Moanalua boys wrestling program is certainly not made up of step-skippers. Na Menehune seem to send an army to every tournament and will be at another when the OIA East championships begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Farrington. The tournament is just the first indication that the season has turned serious, with states just 19 days away. It’s early, but Moanalua has something to fight for. Senior state champion Noah Wusstig has an opportunity to win his fourth […]

Maya Hagiwara’s 3 goals pushes Kamehameha into semis

By Nick Abramo on January 31, 2019

Maya Hagiwara had a night to remember Thursday. Normally an attacking midfielder, Hagiwara was moved to center forward and netted three second-half goals to lead Kamehameha to a 3-0 victory over Mililani in the Division I quarterfinals of The Queen’s Medical Center/HHSAA Girls Soccer State Championships at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. Neither team budged in the first half. In the second, the ILH champion and top-seeded Warriors (11-2) took control. Hagiwara’s first goal, the game-winner, came on a rebound of […]
