Q&A: Punahou’s slugging shortstop, D’Asha Saiki

By Paul Honda on March 12, 2019

This is the season of D’Asha Saiki, doing Babe Ruth kind of things. The Punahou senior picked up a new bat, courtesy of Mom and Dad, after breaking her old one. Great hitters simply wear out the old and bring in the new. She has not missed a beat. She batted .760 in preseason with 26 RBIs. In ILH play, after five games, she is batting .917 with an OPS of 2.584, 10 RBIs and eight runs scored. She has […]

By Nick Abramo on March 11, 2019

Campbell kept its spot at No. 1 in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser softball Top 10, but there was plenty of movement at other ranks. ‘Iolani was the biggest positive climber, up five spots to No. 3 after a 1-1 week in which the Raiders lost to No. 6 Punahou 9-3 and topped then-No. 7 Kamehameha 17-11. Two teams took big drops. Leilehua descended five places to No. 10, and St. Francis, which started the season at No. 4, tumbled out of […]

‘Iolani chips into Baldwin’s hold of No. 1 in Baseball Top 10

By Paul Honda on March 11, 2019

Pitching and defense may well win championships, but offense can sure sway a voter or two. Baldwin is still the No. 1 team in the Star-Advertiser Baseball Top 10, but a week of inactivity — the MIL season begins this week — and more torrid hitting by ‘Iolani caused minor seismic activity. Baldwin had all 10 first-place votes last week, but lost one to the ‘Iolani hit machine today. Baldwin (8-1, 0-0 MIL) collected nine of the 10 top votes […]
