Student-athletes sign national letters of intent at Elks Club

More than 70 student-athletes gathered at the Elks Club in Waikiki this morning to sign their national letters of intent in the final signing period for current seniors. Punahou’s eighth-inning, walk-off 8-7 victory over ‘Iolani on Monday to win the ILH regular season didn’t end in jubilation for the home team. Part of the reason was ‘Iolani third baseman Taylor Kai getting knocked over on the final play and hitting her head, which had Raiders coach Benny Agbayani concerned about her availability for the ILH postseason tournament beginning Wednesday. The Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I softball playoffs begin on Wednesday with four quarterfinal-round games. Castle (6-6), the fourth-place team in the East, will host West 5 Kapolei (5-7). The winner will visit West 1 Campbell (12-0), the defending league champion, on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
