Sarah Domingo completes OIA tennis slam

By Kyle Sakamoto on April 20, 2019

Pearl City’s Sarah Domingo once again proved she’s the queen of the court, claiming her fourth OIA girls singles championship. Domingo defeated Kalaheo’s Larissa Teramura 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 for the girls singles crown Saturday at Central Oahu Regional Park. She is the first to complete the slam since Mililani’s Alyssa Tobita. “Four years, it’s pretty difficult, but I couldn’t have done it without all my family, my friends and especially my coaches and teammates supporting me,” Domingo said. Teramura, a […]

Saint Louis’ 4×100 relay team makes ILH meet history

By Nick Abramo on April 20, 2019

Everybody in Hawaii track and field circles knows the Saint Louis 4×100 relay team is fast as a unit, but they are doing a lot individually, too. The squad — Roman Wilson, Keanu Wallace, Korvin Feagins and Keola Yadao — ran the event in 42.11 on Saturday at Kamehameha to set a new ILH championship meet record. It’s also the best time for Hawaii in 2019, and it is better than Punahou’s 42.18 from last year that set the state-meet […]

Kamehameha’s Tanner Moku makes statement in 300 hurdles

By Nick Abramo on April 20, 2019

When people think boys hurdles statewide this year, they think of Rey Cadiz of Baldwin. But Kamehameha’s Tanner Moku is turning heads and dropping jaws, too. Moku ran a 37.99 seconds in the 300 hurdles to win the ILH championship Saturday at Kamehameha. Not only is it the best for Hawaii in 2019, it’s also better than Dana Navarro-Arias‘ 38.10 for Maui High in 1999 that still stands as the state-meet record. Nobody, not even Moku, saw this coming. “That […]

Damien’s Zada Tagovailoa has an arm to match her cousins, Tua and Taulia

By Nick Abramo on April 20, 2019

What is it with the Tagovailoas and arms? We all know about Tua and Taulia, but now here comes Zada into the mix. Zada Tagovailoa, a junior thrower for the Damien track and field team, won the girls discus event at the ILH track and field championships on Saturday at Kamehameha. She is a first cousin of Alabama football players Tua Tagovailoa (second in the Heisman Trophy race last year) and his younger brother Taulia. Zada’s father, Pisa Tagovailoa, is […]

Kamehameha’s Kelena Sauer tosses 2-hit shutout to open ILH tournament

By Christian Shimabuku on April 20, 2019

With the way Kamehameha’s Kelena Sauer was throwing against Mid-Pacific, one run was all he needed. Beau Sylvester made sure he got it. Sylvester broke a scoreless tie with a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning and Sauer worked a perfect seventh inning to complete a 1-0 shutout over the Owls (7-8) to open the ILH double-elimination tournament on Saturday at Ala Wai field. Sauer struck out five, walked one and allowed two infield hits for […]

By Paul Honda on April 20, 2019

The Saint Louis Crusaders endured cold temperatures, rain and wind in Las Vegas, but returned home better for the effort. The Crusaders went 1-3, losing to St. Rita (Ill.) 6-3, Juan Diego (Utah) 7-6 and nationally-ranked St. Laurence (Ill.) 6-4. Business as usual for No. 1 Campbell which gets Leilehua in OIA final

By Paul Honda on April 19, 2019

It was methodical, almost mechanical, and classic Campbell. For a few innings, the spirited and young — the starting infield is comprised of freshmen — Kaiser Cougars hung tough. Then came a six-run fourth inning by No. 1 Campbell, breaking a 1-all tie en route to a 9-3 victory for the Sabers in the semifinals of the OIA Division I softball playoffs on Friday night at McKinley. Now it’ll be Campbell, the defending league champion, against defending state champion Leilehua […]

Gianna Araki’s 3 homers boost Leilehua into OIA softball final

By Paul Honda on April 19, 2019

The last time they met, Waianae seemed on the verge of a pitchers’ duel with Leilehua. On Friday night, just like that battle back on Mar. 30, Leilehua’s bats woke up in a big way. No. 7 Leilehua rallied from a six-run deficit for a 12-8 win, paving the way for a matchup with Campbell in the OIA softball championship game on Saturday. In their previous meeting, Waianae freshman pitcher Mya Keliiwaiwai‘ole kept Leilehua quiet for three innings in a […]
