DAY 2: Datahouse/HHSAA state softball

Four teams will punch their ticket to the semifinals of the Datahouse/HHSAA State Softball Championships in Division I with four quarterfinal games today at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. In four opening-round games on Wednesday, a total of 13 home runs were hit, which is more than the entire state tournament a year ago. Moanalua, Kapolei primed for battle at state judo

Moanalua’s Noah Wusstig drew the top seed for the last leg of his journey toward a state judo slam. Wusstig opens his state tournament at 145 pounds against Campbell’s Jacob Andrade on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center. State softball tournament about to obliterate record for most homers

Hawaii’s hitters had quite a launch party on the first day of the Division I state softball championships at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. There were 13 home runs hit in the four games. Those 13 dingers trails the record 16 hit by the field in 2016. Last year’s entire tournament had 12 home runs, and there are seven games left in this edition. Battle of friends goes Punahou’s way for ILH title

The battle of frenemies was epic for Punahou and Kamehameha. Punahou relied on aces Matt McConnell and Landon Carter to capture the ILH baseball championship on Wednesday, outlasting Kamehameha 2-0 at Hans L’Orange Park. McConnell and his counterpart, Christian DeJesus, put on a remarkable pitchers’ duel through nearly six innings. Athletic funding bill amendments made; bill passes

Roosevelt is still slated for its new gym and there will still be lots of funding for girls athletic locker rooms and softball fields after House and Senate amendments to House Bill 1259 SD1 CD1 on Tuesday. The bill passed through the Legislature on the same day and will head to Gov. David Ige for his signature. Some line items remained the same and others were changed, added or deleted. ACLU, DOE respond to girls sports funding in state bill

House Bill SD1 CD1, which includes athletic funding for high schools, has passed the Legislature and is headed to Gov. David Ige for his signature. Recent amendments were made to the bill and you can see those line item changes here. The full bill’s travels can be found here.
