Griffin Motas ices Moanalua’s first-ever win over ‘Iolani

By Jason Kaneshiro on August 11, 2019

Griffin Motas didn’t mind ‘Iolani coach Wendell Look using his final two timeouts to try to get into the Moanalua kicker’s head Saturday night. Kahuku adds athlete Mana Fonoimoana-Vaomu to QB rotation

By Christian Shimabuku on August 10, 2019

When Kahuku’s Mana Fonoimoana-Vaomu lined up behind center and took the team’s first snaps at quarterback against Kamehameha, it wasn’t a gimmick. Fonoimoana-Vaomu was primarily a safety as a sophomore and junior. He still lined up in the secondary against the Warriors and also held punting responsibilities for the Red Raiders. But quarterback was also on the list of duties for the 5-foot-10, 182-pound senior, who completed his only pass attempt for four yards and rushed eight times for 52 […]

Kahuku’s O-line not pleased despite 21-13 win over No. 6 Kamehameha

By Paul Honda on August 10, 2019

The two veterans of Kahuku’s bulldozing offense line see a lot of work ahead. Moments after a 21-13 win over No. 6 Kamehameha, right tackle Micah Soliai-Howlett and right guard Marcus Lombard were brutally frank with their assessment as a unit in the trenches. “D-minus,” said Soliai-Howlett. “We could have scored on every drive if we didn’t have simple mistakes. We should have double the score we had.” “I say D-minus, too,” Lombard added. “It was terrible.” Kahuku entered the […]

Aiea discovered ground game in win over Radford

By Brian McInnis on August 10, 2019

At halftime, up in the Aiea press box Friday night, a Na Alii assistant coach mused out loud that his team really, really needed to establish the run if they wanted to come back against Radford. As foreshadowing went, it was top notch. Aiea did just what he described, riding the legs of 6-foot, 190-pound junior running back Javon Miller to a 34-19 comeback win in the teams’ OIA Division I opener. Aiea, which trailed 19-7 at halftime, scored 27 […]
